I have a 2000 2b29NR Notebook that came with Windows 8 which I dont care for, so I installed Win 7 Home Premium. Device Manager is telling me that the only drivers that I'm needing are ....

1. Ethernet Controller on PCI bus 3, device 0, function 0

2. Network Controller on PCI bus 7,device 0, function 0

3. PCI device- PCI bus 8,device 0, function 0

4. SM bus Controller- PCI bus 0, device 20, function 0

I realize this machine may be so new that hardware manufacturers may not have developed Win 7 drivers for this laptop, but I figured it was worth a try. Maybe Vista drivers? I'm pretty much stuck at this point, so I could really use some assistance. Thanks!!!

Hi:

Below is all the info you need to get W7 x64 to run on your notebook.

First, install the amd chipset driver and reboot. You want the first file on the webpage.

That will install the smbus controller.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows 7 - 64

You should be able to use all of the drivers and software from this HP 2000 model, except the wireless.

DO NOT USE ANY BIOS OR FIRMWARE DOWNLOADS FROM THIS LINK

Ethernet Controller:

Network Controller:

PCI Device:

If you need the graphics driver, this is the one you need.

Thank you Paul, so much for the information. Once the chipset drivers were installed I could tell that the rest of the driver installations were going to probably get Windows 7 to where it needed to be.

Now, with regard to future BIOS and firmware updates.... how will I approach those?

Once again, thank you Paul so very much for helping. I thought for sure that I'd be reinstalling 8.

You're very welcome.

As long as the BIOS updates on your PC's support and driver page show support for W7, then you should be fine.

The current one there does for example.

However if any future BIOS update does not have W7 listed as a supported operating system, you would have to reinstall W8 in order to update the BIOS.

Happy New Year!

Sm Bus Controller Driver Windows 7 Hp 2000 Download 32 Bit Windows 7

Hello,

I recently acquired an HP 2000-2b29NR and am also interested in maybe installing Windows 7 (64-bit) on it. So I decided to find some information on doing this and found this page. I have no idea if this laptop even works, as I have to get a power supply for it. I often buy non-working computers and repair them. What can I say, it's a hobby.

In trying to download the Synaptics TouchPad Driver, I end up going through the Country/Language selection. Selecting 'Drivers & Software', then doing the 'Find product' step, entering 'HP 2000-2b29NR'. If I try to enter 'HP 2000z-2a00' I get taken right to the Country/Language selection.

On the 'HP 2000-2b29NR Notebook PC Drivers' page, Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) is one of the selections, click on 'Next'. The web page's address is: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5314... . This page shows different software and drivers and seems to be more recent.

So there seem to be some drivers/software specific to the HP 2000-2b29NR with Windows 7 (64-bit).

I was never able to download the Synaptics TouchPad Driver. Even going to the drivers page takes me through the above process. Any ideas?

There was no problem with downloading any of the other drivers.

Hi, Dave:

You will notice on the link you posted, key drivers missing such as the graphics.

Here is the link to the HP 2000z-2a00 which has all of the drivers you should need except the smbus controller.

The amd chipset driver installs the smbus controller...

Best Regards,

Paul

Thanks Paul,

I was able to get those drivers using the links from your original post.

However, the one driver for the HP 2000z-2a00 CTO Notebook that I was unable to get, is the one for the Synaptics TouchPad. See the following:

No matter which links I click on I can't download this driver. The download buttons/links all point to

However no matter which one I click on, I always get taken to this page

Which is how I found the driver page for the HP 2000-2b29NR, by entering 'HP 2000-2b29NR' on this page

instead of 'HP 2000z-2a00 CTO'

Maybe this has something to do with the fact that I'm not trying to download it using the laptop. As I see it, this should have no bearing on being able to download a driver.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi, Dave:

Yep. There is definitely something wrong with that link/file #.

As an alternative, you should be able to use the touchpad driver from the g6t-2000.
